I convinced a couple porcupines to stop eating me trees.

I planted a bunch of apple seeds and some acorns the last few days. My apple seeds were sprouting in the fridge, so it was a time crunch. About half of the acorns were showing root radicals, so they got potted.

Fertilized and re-mulched the Concordia oaks I planted 12 months ago. Finished cleaning up an old fence line that was completely choked with MFR. Had to burn some of the dense clusters just to get in and clean it all. Ran over the area with a lawnmower and its just about ready for my altenating red and yellow twig dogwood planting.

Pruned the last few trees I was saving scion for. Getting too warm. kerr, chesnut, and trailman waking up a bit. Pears got the grey fuzz. Sprayed copper on my peaches to prevent leaf curl. Used the leftover spray for apple trees suspectible to scab or cedar apple rust.

Grafted Arkansas Black on few laterals of a dolgo tree Hoping to crossbreed the two someday.

Didn't plan to start this project after a long day of field work, but saw radicals in the fridge and figured I better start my chestnuts and these hybrid oaks from @OakSeeds in the RM18s

I will probably end up with over 50 seedlings this Spring. I'm going to carpet bomb a part of the hunting terrain with them and hope some of them make it to maturity.

I got 12 bags of Red Osier Dogwood started. Is it too late to prune apples in NW Wis zone 3? I have 7 to take care of but have been too busy to get up to the land.

Took a friend out to the farm and filled three buckets full of ROD/silky/hybrid/flame willow clippings to plant as edge screening on his farm, this past Saturday.

Also had the grandsons over yesterday for a birthday party and they all took a ride or two on the tractor down the ditch next to the road, it was funny watching passers by waving back and forth to the kids as they drove by, faces all smiling.

I have some oaks started in my basement, white oaks and a dwarf chinkapin oak under grow lamps. Also planted 6 Jerusalem Artichoke tubers and I sharpened the chainsaw for tomorrow.

You use Leca as mulch?

Yeah, I had an aquaponics project a few years ago (long story, not doing currently, but the clay balls were used in that project) and so I have some left over in my garage and I put it on top of the soil as mulch at home. Not necessary but I have it.
Seems to help? (or at least not hurt)

The recidivism rate drops significantly with a lead treatment!

I have river stones, but they're heavy, and a real bummer to move around when redoing the flower beds. Maybe Leca is a good alternative. Makes sense. Water should flow right through it. And it weighs a lot less than stone.
