What Habitat Work Did You Do Today?

Soil samples? Pretty sure we have 2' of frost in the ground still!

It was 80 degrees several days last week. It did dip into 50's today. It was little brisk out there ;) The soil temp map shows my area is around 67 degrees right now. Very warm winter, even for this far south.

The positive side of a warm winter is that my clover plots are really starting to explode. They will be knee high by the end of March at this rate.

Picked my trailer up today. I paid for all materials - new fenders, screws, paint, and treated lumber. Backwoods paint and body guy welded fender on, straightened other fender, sanded rusts spots, painted frame, removed deck and replaced with new boards. Charged me $325. I thought that was a good price and a good job. Should outlast me now.

You got a heck of a deal I'd say. Looks sharp.

Ticks are bad up here already this year.
We are still under several inches of snow up here, but not looking forward to the spring time ticks.

3rd straight year of little snowfall for us. Biggest snow was on Nov 30. Snow in the forecast this weekend. We're going to treat clothes now. I've removed 10 so far this month.

Huh?! That’s insane! ☹️

Geez mort. I was out and about this weekend at my place hack and squirt and chainsawing and assumed they weren’t out yet so I didn’t check. I’m sure I’ll find one now

Had my local forester out today for a couple of hours to mark trees for me. I find myself getting into analysis paralysis..... I can tell her the goal and she sets off marking trees for me, I feel like I am far more productive that way. I spend way too much time trying to decide what to cut and what to leave. She left and I fired up the chainsaw and I started girdling and treating trees, including some oaks and such that I would have talked myself into keeping if I was marking trees. She always says if you see one you like and want to keep it, then keep it, even if I marked it. I say, nope! That is why I have you here, I just like being the hitman on my own property!! 🙂

More FSI work today, deep snow made walking a lot of work.
