used Coffee Grounds as a deer/rabbit repellent for trees and plants

Foggy47

5 year old buck +
Visiting with my Brother-in law over Christmas. He told me to use some old coffee grounds on the ice as an anti-slip medium on my sidewalk. He said he had a couple of big bags of old coffee grounds saved over time.

I wanted to know what he was doing with all those dried grounds. He told me he used it as a deer repellent around his tree plantings and in his garden to deter rabbits and deer. Said it worked for him.

He grew up on a farm, and his parents ran a big garden and used this method allot around the perimeter of their garden. I been reading about this....and it seems like the real deal. Anyone else got a report on this? I'm saving used coffee grounds now too.

^ This could be a solution to get many things established like red dossier dogwood and more. Also a repellent for slugs and such....maybe voles and mice too?

Do a google search. Lots of data to sift through on this topic.

interesting, is it necessary to take them out of the little K-cups first?

I had heard of that as an ant repellent but never for deer rabbits.

never considered them but I think you could use the k-cups and place one near your plant or tree. Replace occasionally. I dont like littering with plastic tho.

did a bit of a dive this morning on you tube. Lots of good uses for coffee grounds and I have heard some before. Seems worm farmers use them allot....and I think I did too as a kid for my small worm selling biz. And I used to add some coffee grounds to my magic worm box.

Forgot about this. SD should pay attention here for his Huggel.

I talked to a pharmacist once who said to put old unused meds in old coffee grounds. Said the acid would render them harmless before you throw them away.
