Trim the rootstock at an angle or forget it?

2015 topwork. I know I need to take the suckers off. Should the rootstock be cut at an angle or just forget it?

Forget it. Nature will take care of it. Very nice topwork by the way

I wish I could top work with as much success, looks good! Like aerospace says, aside from trimming the suckers, I' let it be too.

I had two topworks of my Garden Crab (probably Columbia) on my wild swamp crab that fruited this last year. There was one other that fruited on a seedling but I lost the tag. All these were from 2015 top works. This past spring, topworks were pretty poor success. 2016 was OK, but success is going down hill. :(
