Very true for those seeking socialization. But for those seeking to avoid socialization, and maximize their control over their children, homeschooling enables those tendencies to be more fully realized. Homeschooling is not the problem, it just gives the opportunity for some (parents) to become more like they already (unfortunately) are - that's what leads to the stereotype.
As is often the case, stereotypes are the result of misplaced blame.
