It had a strange looking crop this year. The top of the tree and the lower limbs were loaded with fruit, but the middle section of the tree had hardly any fruit. Depending on the wind, about 20 - 40 % of these pears will hang on and not fall when ripe, but a high percentage will fall on their own.
Nice! I need a pole like that. I also did a successful first time ever graft this year which happens to be an Ayers. I took the tape off today. I can update that thread. Haven't you stated before that Ayers is one of your favorite eaters?

To me they are the best right off the tree while the flesh is crispy. But some people like to let them soften. They will develop maybe a little more sweetness that way.
I have put the firm ones in the fridge and eaten them even after Christmas - still very good and crisp....
