Time to grab those pea pickin pears

You first picture made me kind of dizzy. Very nice looking pears though. What variety?

Those are Ayers.

It had a strange looking crop this year. The top of the tree and the lower limbs were loaded with fruit, but the middle section of the tree had hardly any fruit. Depending on the wind, about 20 - 40 % of these pears will hang on and not fall when ripe, but a high percentage will fall on their own.

I grafted 2 Ayers this spring. Thanks for showing me what I have to look forward to.

Wow those are some big 'ol pears.

Nice! I need a pole like that. I also did a successful first time ever graft this year which happens to be an Ayers. I took the tape off today. I can update that thread. Haven't you stated before that Ayers is one of your favorite eaters?

Yes indeed. My favorite eating pear.

To me they are the best right off the tree while the flesh is crispy. But some people like to let them soften. They will develop maybe a little more sweetness that way.

I have put the firm ones in the fridge and eaten them even after Christmas - still very good and crisp....
