Throat Patch from year to year

PrairieShadow

5 year old buck +
I've had/have a very cool double throat patch buck make my place home this past year. He stuck around until food ran out and left with all the other deer. Does anyone have any experience as to whether a deer will maintain that double throat patch from year to year for identification purposes?

That doesn't seem like something that would change from year to year.

It won't change.

Thanks. Wasn’t sure how that would return with shedding winter/summer coats.

I have a doe named socks. She has 6“ white bands around each leg just above her hooves. Last year was the first time I saw her so hopefully she makes it through the winter. You could see her from a mile away.

Think of it like the pattern on a dog or cat. They continually shed fur, but maintain the same pattern.

The guy I bought my WI property from named this buck "Patches" because of a distinctive mark on his side that he had as a 4.5 year old. I harvested him this fall as a 6.5 year old and the mark was gone.
