The native range of elk and other stupid animals...

I’m pretty sure there’s enough funny money exchanging hands on those cattle leases on public land that you would never convince the powers to be to make that change. They don’t want a pay cut.

When you look at the Gov't money & subsidies available for farming/ranching/leasing, hunting revenue would be a distant consideration.

Don't forget the water too, that's where the funny money is. I am talking the deepest darkest of the funny money. And that's is where the rancher is actually protecting the animal habitat and rural community.
I do not believe the claim that there are vast acreages of public land that is being over grazed. Most people are not that dumb, it would be literal suicide. You cannot accurately access grazing levels and attribute it to one cause with a snap shot and little knowledge about the area.

The leases are tied to private property, each permit should have enough private acreage attached to it that it can support the operation if the public land has to be rested.

Oh yeah water is king. There will be a war fought over water one day.

But it’s my understanding that grazing leases come up for bid? I read an article the other day about a family who had been leasing public ground for a lot of years and they lost it to a high bidder.

Have you ever driven through Wyoming or western South Dakota? It is a lot more common than you would think. Overgraze a thousand public acres next to your home farm right before hunting season and there is no pheasant habitat on public land and the birds are all on your place. Some of those pheasant operations charge $100+ per guy per day, so there is a financial incentive for that.

The private land almost always has better grass and wildlife habitat than the adjacent public land they lease.

How hard is it to get a NR tag in Utah?

How many times have you won the lottery?

lol it’s hard. I have 16 points (which is 16 years if that’s not obvious) invested and I still don’t have enough for a good hunt. Maybe 10 more years? And that is archery.
I can’t speak for landowner type stuff though.

Never but I’ve never actually played the lottery. Always thought it was the government collecting taxes but making people think they were having fun paying them…

I have a boat load of Wyoming points for deer and elk. Keep buying them so I don’t loose them. Same tax racket as the lottery 😡
