Tag Alder Eradication

Started clearing another area to the west of the spot I started clearing. Almost got 4 tanks of gas through the brushcutter.

A good amount of ROD mixed in so I am hopeful for the ROD to bounce back. The new area is cleared had some big tags in it and some of the dogwood was grey and pretty big. Excited to see how it bounces back

It should come back like gangbusters. Once ROD is established, it can take a real beating. I chop mine down every winter, and you'd think I dumped fertilizer on it. I'll make a video sometime this week.

I need to get out and hand log around my ROD bushes before tick season kicks off. I'm getting pretty well caught up now that this doesn't take more than a minute or two for about a dozen sentinel bushes around my property.

Does that mean releasing the ROD? I am thinking in the areas I am clearing id like to stay on the tags so they don't get so big just because they are a pain to deal with as they get over 8- 10' tall

Yes. If I stay on them each year, the regrowth snaps easily and quickly by hand. I carry a silky too, but hand snapping is even faster than that. I throw all the brush down right around the ROD bushes.

Good to know. I know i likely wont be able to keep up with all the tags on my place by keeping certain areas set back seems achievable

I don't try to fight it across the board either. I only focus on the spots where I've got something up and coming like oaks (like 6' - 12' trees), ROD, juneberry, or even a good balsam fir. Otherwise, I'm sure I'll be back with the saw in 5-10 years to start the process all over again.
