Summer Release Blend

Turkey Creek

5 year old buck +
Time constraints as always prevented me from getting things done that I wanted to this Summer. Rototilled and then broadcast Green Cover’s Summer Release blend on part of this plot. Foxtail is bad in this plot, but the Release blend did a very good job of suppressing and out competing the Foxtail. Blend in the foreground and unplanted Foxtail portion in the background.

How big do those sunflower heads get in that mix. Does the milo head out and mature?

Looks good! Rototilling... I remember those beating the hell out of me as a kid. Haven't ran one since. Way to man up!

What's in that mix? Anything that smothers out foxtail is good in my book.

Oh I manned up by driving the tractor with a 5' rototiller on the back of it! LOL I have spent plenty of time behind a old Troy Built Garden Horse though, we grew up raising a big garden. There was always tilling to be done.

Non-GMO Soybeans, Cowpeas, Mung Beans, Lab Lab, Hybrid Grain Sorghum, Alyce Clover, Sunflowers, Buckwheat, and GreenBoost 2.0 Biology Package. Sunflowers, soybeans and Mung Beans make up over the half the volume.

Probably 4" sunflower head. Yes on the milo heading out and maturing. That is if the deer dont eat it first. I would say that the heads probably aren't super full on mine as I planted it pretty heavy and did not fertilize it.

Looks great Turkey Creek!

I planted a summer cover crop similar to the Green Cover blend but I likely won't get sunflowers that big as my deer really prefer browsing them when they are young. My mix was heavy on the grasses as I had a lot of older leftover seed I wanted to get rid of. I didn't get mine planted here in Upper Michigan until June 11th so they have a ways to go yet...

The barley is just starting to develop seed heads...

I saw 8 deer in this smaller plot a few days ago - they are all over it...

This was the recipe - like I said - heavy on the grasses
