Start thinking about burn season....

With snow on the ground and hunting seasons still going strong in many states, the though of burning is far from most "to-do lists," dormant-season burns help manage grasslands and promote native plant growth. Fire is frequently listed as the most powerful tool in the habitat management toolbox.

The Great Plains Fire Science Exchange has an interactive map to help folks find prescribed burn associations in their area:

Other resources include:
Missouri Prescribed Fire Council
Oklahoma Prescribed Burn Association
National Coalition of Prescribed Fire Councils

For those in Texas, here's a link to the Prescribed Burn Associations in TX. https://www.pbatexas.org/member-associations
I know the East TX PBA is very active, and has regular classes and demonstration burns you can attend. If you sign up, they send out events updates often.

Soon as the snow showed up, I got all my burning done. It was nice to get all that stuff cleaned up. I'd like to do one more, but I have to pile everything up first.

I'll be doing burns at the cabin property and the farm....I really need to do a growing season burn, but I may put that off until 2027 when I am retired!

I'm worried about Kansas this spring. More fuel in the pastures than I've ever seen before.

IMO that is a good thing, hopefully burn hot enough to kill more cedars and other trash brush.

Get good burns, but I worry about control (or I should say out of control) and wind.

The Fire Departments are worried also as many people don't know how to burn or that they are liable for anything that happens once they light that fire and this means from burning up someone else's property to causing a car wreck.I have seen large amounts paid for cedars that the other landowner said he didn't want burned. I'm sure we will spend alot of time doing mutual aid over in Cats area.At least I don't think we will go back and help Oklahoma this year after getting screwed by them last year.
