St. Lawerence Nursery trees are up

I’ve never received broken trees from them. Packaged same way. Definitely shipping company issue.

I have not put an order in anywhere yet. Leaning towards a place for both rootstock and trees.

Ordering will be up next tuesday. Thinking (2) Violi's (2) Winterwildlife () AWHO maybe MN 1734, Macfree, or Nova EZgro. They got alot of unique varieties far as tree nurseries go in the USA. Any good ones I am missing. Might be adding Big Deer Crab. I already have Kerr, trailman, macoun, empire. looking for only zone 3 trees at camp. Might steal some scion material off macfree. Need a early apple for home to replace rusty pristine.

Just a bit of info - SLN's apple variety "Rhuby" makes a very tasty apple. Depends on your local climate possibly, but in NC Pa. mountains, zone 5/6 border, no spray - they look clean and taste great!!! Sweet & tangy both, crisp & juicy. FWIW.

I already had that one on my list because think I saw you posted about that one before

Wife and mother-in-law told ne to get sweet 16. Frostbite x nothern spy. Thry like it more than macoun this year.

Maybe I posted about Rhuby before - just don't remember. Wife isn't a big apple fan - but she flipped over Rhuby. "WOW - what kind is this?" were her words as we both tasted it for the first time a few weeks ago. It even caught me by surprise at the great taste.

Not affiliated with SLN - but our camp has a bunch of their stock. No problems with any of their varieties in NC Pa.

Guessing rhuby gets cedar apple rust. Not much to go on for details from st lawrence. ripe time, etc.

anybody put an order in?

Think I went pretty light 1 of each violi's, winter wildlife, all winter hangover, and sweet 16. Went with 10 siberian rootstocks. Temted to double up on violi's and winter wildlife. Still have a violi's I grafted to plant in 2 weeks when I go back up to camp. Got a winter wildlife on m111 I'm nt sure what to do with. Wondering if M111 would do ok in zone 3 sandy soil? Thinking no.

Anybdy have a preference of winter wildlife vs AWHO.

Was looking at the ma where to put some of this stuff.

Gonna pass on Rhuby. Really not wanting any trees unless they're proven to be disease free.

Zone 3 go with full size rootstock

They didn’t have chenango strawberry, kinda bummed, I don’t think I’ll order anything except maybe some elderberries. Got four last year from them and they were the best I ever planted. One even fruited. Looked like nothing and was hesitant but they took off.

coworker hopped on my order. He put elderberries, currents, grapes, and a pear.

B116,

St lawrences apples are all on full sized rootstock. Mostly antonovka, some crabs are on siberian crabapple. Supposedly all seedlings, not clonal stock. I'd prefer to order from other nurseries, but they have a very complete selection of zone 3 and zone 2 trees. Winters are milder than they used to be up north. But, they get their cold spells. I could get by with B118 on the right graft probably. Son-in-law is building a house in my foodplot......... I am removing 2 or 3 trees for his driveway. One of them in Dolgo on B118. Trying to get that up there veterans day weekend. Trailman and AWHO on anty is going up too.

What are the characteristics of Siberian crab rootstock?

Technicall, Dolgo is a siberian crab.

Not sure. Would prefer anty. They say they use this on some of their crabapples. Loking to graft crabs on rhem anyway.

Just want a one stop order. Was tempted to put a 1nd order from mehrabyan nursery. Just rootstock only. Anry does work ok at my homes heavy clay soil.

Thought mehrabyan had chenango strawberry. Maybe not this year. Fished the chenango forks 2 or 3 summers ago. Most of my hunting camp is from bignhamton. Try to do a summer meet up for a show at the brewery by the big state campground over there. Couple of my grafted trees are planted over there. Give a few out the past few years to members.

Placed a 2nd order to saint lawrence. A 2nd winter wildlife, giving that big deer a shot, and got a rhuby for my son-in-law. He bought a house this summer and has a dog named ruby.
