Spike Doe

Native Hunter

5 year old buck +
If you look closely at the deer on the left in this picture that is trying to wind me, you will see a spike doe. She is leading her family group through the NWSGs to a persimmon tree at the edge of the field. I watched these deer for a while before figuring out what I was looking at. Does with horns are not unheard of but unusual none the less.

Pretty neat.

She'll be a booner next year!

Did you check under the hood?

I found the sheds off a 140 class "doe" one year ( I didnt know it at the time). She was shot the next year and had a little tube neck but sported a 160" 4x4 rack with some BIG Droptines! She had a dry milk sac underneath and no other hardware. It seems usually they stay in velvet... but evidently this one had enough testosterone to shed velvet and its antlers. I guess there are all types???

Doesn’t surprise my that a racked Doe could get that big. An old nanny doe is hard to kill because they don’t get stupid during the rut.

Everyone is confused about their gender these days, even the blessed whitetails!

All joking aside, that is pretty cool Native! I have never seen one myself but what an interesting thing to encounter!

whitetails getting covid, confused on gender... What's happening?

On the plus side, that entourage looked like a mostly peaceful protest

Yes, they are turning into us. I think this began when we started building beds for them.

Turning into us is nature's way of protecting them from being eaten by us - except for cannibals of course.......
