Here's a Antonovka seedling tree about 10 years old blossoming this spring. Last year it bore small 1/2 inch crabapple fruit so I'm starting to top work it over to a number of varieties.

Here's an young apple tree that I planted last fall that has me scratching my head wondering what did this to it.
Gracie%20pics%20amp%20apples%20009_zpsfhgvaxqf.jpg

the tree has window screen & concrete wire around it and the base of the tree is unmarked, just the top is "chewed" on. I plan on taking the pruners to it next time I go past and snip off to a bud.

Good question, Rick. I never saw anything like that. Hopefully someone else knows what did it. Mouse crawl up the outside of the screen & chew the tender top ???? I actually SAW a mouse jump about 2 ft. from a window curtain to another window curtain once !! I suppose they could climb a screen if they had a mind to.

Good gracious Rick thats horrifying! For all we know the critters have read this forum and now are fully knowledgeable about our plant to vet them away.

Looks like the buds below where the bark is chewed off were also munched!
