Snake id?

Hey cat, look up Flat-headed Snake, Tantilla gracilis

I don't think you're supposed to pick up snakes you can't identify!
It had tried to get me to eat an apple, but I wasn't falling for that old line! But, through the course of our conversation I had grown to trust her somewhat. Figuring we were practically friends I went ahead and held her for some closeup still frames.

Looks like a worm snake to me . They are very small , under 1 foot , and no thicker than a pencil . I just looked up flat headed snake that Native mentioned . I've never heard of it , but on 2nd look , its head does look kind of flat .

The one I caught had a blunt tail, and its belly coloration did not go up its sides. The internet said to look at those things to distinguish the two. Plus we have a ton of scorpions so I'm hopeful to have something around that eats them.

And the irony of a guy's who's handle is "worm" saying it might be a worm snake is not lost on me!
