Mine is on leveled dirt with gravel.

I put a whirly bird on top. It sits under a covered barn but still gets hot.

The mice love it. Constant battle.

I'm planning to use concrete blocks to level mine and get it off the ground.

Another thing will be to make sure it is properly ventilated. We have had issues with condensation in ours. They were from mid state or mid Minnesota something or other. Guy that brought them to us on multiple occasions was good. Talked high school wrestling for a bit with him. Had five boys at one of the non metro powerhouse schools can’t remember off hand. Want to say frazee but…
