Shipping Container sources

Does anyone have a recommended source for shipping containers that could deliver in central MN? I need to get one dropped for equipment storage at my land.

You can find a local distributor on google or craigs list. You will want to figure out which type of metal you want and if you want a 1 time, new or how used. Also the door set up

These two seem reputable. Looks like you're in for about 2k plus delivery. Neither site posts prices, so I assume you can haggle a bit. I'd see if I could get the price knocked down a bit by paying cash. I don't know about demand this time of year, but I wouldn't think it's especially high.

I checked Marketplace but didn't find anything that stood out. The problem there is that you don't have any recourse in case something is wrong with your purchase.

We got all of ours from an outfit in Minnesota somewhere. It's at the tip of my tongue but cant think of it off hand. If it doesn't escape me I'll give you an update. Thinking somewhere in the Detroit Lakes area.

We've bought a few private party/small distributor and more recently from construction office rental yards. Pac-van, Modspace, etc. They tend to have "new" single trip units and some more beat up units. It all depends on how nice of a container you want, and what youd like to spend.

Got a quote from Tom Kraemer yesterday. Yards in Minneapolis, Cold Spring, and Moose Lake MN. Delivery is an additional $5 per loaded mile.

Thanks, I requested a quote from both.

Trying to figure our these things kind of suck since you're often just dealing with brokers. I need someone to physically look at the site and see if they could even actually get it where I want it. Otherwise there's no point. Any sources I've seen have been middle men, not the people who'd actually be bring it. That's who I need to get in touch with.

You might price what a local rolloff tow service would charge to move it.A local guy brought mine to location. In fact alot of those container places thats who they use.If a truck can back it there with a 40 foot flat bed you should be able to get it in.Are you putting down gravel first?Another good option that I did was put 2 containers in and put up a used prefab canopy between them and sort of used them for wall.Don't ask me how I know but you will need to fasten canopy down.

Post a pic. We could maybe help. I’m gonna have the same issues. I’ve about decided to get a 40’ high cube some time soon.

About NY prices here. Probably about 200 miles from where they pick the containers up in NJ newark area.

Have some stuff to put it on when they arrive, like 4x4 chunks.

(2) 20 with a tractor parking spot in the middle seems like its worth a few extra bucks. 2 car carports still affordable? Need to look myself. Thinking of a california car lift for my house. 4 post on a slab with a carport overtop of it. Got a hot rod bug lately.

At the moment I'd need something like....

But I'd rather not cut a path through the woods only to have them say "Nah, we can't get up there."
Thinking a 10x20. Mostly for storage of tools and tree stands, but possible as a place to sleep on a rare occasion.
I have a slab to put it on, old house site (cabin/cottage). But it's on a hill and completely surrounded by forest.
I could pretty much accomplish the same thing with a couple sheds, and it wouldn't require me cutting down a million trees, but they'd be a lot higher maintenance and more vulnerable to theft and damage.

This idea always intrigued me. Not a permanent structure, so no property tax implications, close the doors and no one's the wiser.

I'd be afraid someone might close that door while I'm in there!

Any structure with a roof that exceeds 10'x10' , or 100 sqft, in Wisconsin is considered taxable land improvement from a property tax standpoint.

Most counties use aerial surveys to check properties for changes or improvements.

Yeah you'd want to lock/chain it open. I wouldn't worry about someone, but maybe the wind. As much of a pain in the ass as those things are to close and lock, it would be just my luck to turn in just enough to trap me. lol

Neighbor's got a 40'er which I don't think they're being hit for.

Nope. Just place the smallest rock you can find in that bottom lug. I mean tiny… Ask me how I know… 😂

Bought mine here five years ago, good experience and price at the time.

For you guys that have containers; just how good of a foundation do they need to sit on? I've seen them on cement, cement footers, and raised gravel beds. Can they just sit on dirt? What do they need?

I have mine sitting on treated wood blocks. It sunk in the first couple of years so we jacked up the corners to level. Now it seems pretty stable/set. I wouldn't put it on the ground. I like having some airflow underneath it, but maybe thats not needed.

I wouldn't put it on dirt. You're just asking for it to rust and rot into the ground. You need it up off the ground so water can drain and air can get under it to keep it dry.
