Seed Sources

I’ve used Welter and Deer Creek Seed a bunch. Welters prices are better but I live about a mile from DCS so can just pick up their stuff.

There’s a guy at Agassiz seed and supply that has a little food plot seed spin-off that I use for clover, winter peas, brassica, oats, and occasionally others. Beans and rye seed from the co-op is usually tough to beat on price though. Northwoods whitetail for plot screen sorghum varieties.

I’ll check them out… thank you!

I live fairly close to Millborn seed in SD. They are fantastic. I’m small potatoes but they treat me like I’m big time. I can’t say enough good things about them.

You have always been big time Kooch.

We have a farmer locally that grows and sells rye—$12 bushel this year, I believe.

Most everything else the past few years, I’ve gotten from Green Cover (no shipping costs as I’m close enough) and Vitalize Seed.

I buy mine from Elk Mound Seed in central Wis. I'm only about 45 min from there but they do ship seeds as well. They have a great selection of food plot seed, ir Clovers, Brassicas, etc. I have a local farmer who grows their own grain and distill vodka. Going to check with him to see if I can buy some rye from him next year.

I get my Clovers from Welters and buy my cereal grains locally. I like to build my own clover blend and welters will mix it all together for a small fee. My foodplots are on the small side and I am usually ordering less than ten pounds of clover seed at a time so shipping is not too bad. Oats/Wheat/Rye I can get at my local elevator/feed store.

I think the resounding answer is......buy your "small" seeds from one of the better seed houses said above......and buy Rye, Oats, Wheat, corn and beans, and other large volume seeds from a local source to reduce shipping costs. Lots of good local sources for seeds.....if you do a little shopping. I have learned to ignore a dollar or two per bag when I find the right source.

Ten bags at an extra dollar or two / bag is a small price to pay for the right stuff. Everyone needs to make a buck.

Looking to do a large frostt seeding this year. Mostly at home in my every 3 week mowed area. Also need to stock up on general clover blend. Looking for a good deal on a 40-50lb bag of clover. Think dutch white might be better than ladino for that kind of use.
