Rutabagas

I planted a small rutabaga plot to see how the deer would use it. Right now it's getting hammered. Leaves and stems being eaten down but not touching the bulbs yet. There's a heavy trail right through the oats/rye/brassica leading to the rutabagas. Anyone else have experience with early season rutabaga use? I think I'll plant a bigger plot next year.

My uncle had luck with them decades ago, up in zone 1. He planted them between the corn plants, decided to go back and harvest some and they were all gone.

I have a short row in the garden and see some deer tracks around them, but little use. Little use of turnips, or other beets at present. They are eating some of the crab apples.
