Raccoon trapping

You could also look at Z push pull traps. Most dog-roof traps only let the coon move the trigger one direction (pull or push traps). These are push/pull traps, so you can get the coons reaching in and pushing the trigger down or pulling up taking bait from the bottom pulling the trigger.

I got one of these last year, and it's done me well. The trigger looks like a metal donut where the coon's paw has to touch if it wants the bait below. Typical dogproofs have a smaller trigger that coons can avoid. Sounds like I should be getting paid for this lol, but it's just a neat alternative.

We use both duke and z push-pull. Both work. I tend to use the Z traps more often. For bait, we typically use a mix of cat food and small marshmallows. We don’t fill it higher than the trigger. We put one swipe of peanut butter just inside the cuff. We had issues with mice stealing the bait, so we cut popcans in half an cover them and put another swipe of peanut butter on the outside of the can.

I’ve also heard that a fish-based bait works well. Will try that at some point.

Using mini marshmallows dry, as well as mixed with Koolaide and/or vanilla. Under the trigger, over, a couple on the ground.
First time I thought it was mice. Camera proved me wrong. Started capping them, setting them like a hair trigger, but still no joy.
It'll be october before I can try again.

A male today to end a couple week trapping drought. 2 males, 6 females, and one skunk since the beginning of March.

Coon 15 down. The birds are taking the bait from the cuffs and cages....I had six empty traps, with the crows and blue birds on camera as the culprits!

I keep my mini marshmallows in the freezer. Keeps me from getting sticky if it is hot out.

Do the coons have babies yet?

Do the coons have babies yet?
I’ve not seen any, and the sows locally still look pregnant. Generally in our area (NW Missouri) late April to early May is the birthing time. Our season runs through April 14 to align with the birthing time.
