Potted Fruit Trees Now June

I see that the Home Depot by my work has Keiffer and Luscious Pears marked down to 5 dollars a tree. They are potted and around 6' tall. I tried to plant 2 Kieffers around a month ago that are showing serious stress signs as highlighted in another post. I was wondering can you keep these pears in the same pots for the rest of the summer and transplant them this fall when they become dormant? The other ones I replanted from pots are looking pretty terrible currently and I was trying to think how I could take advantage of the price on these trees. Any advice?

Possibly. Depends how large the pot is and how long they have been in it. Sometimes you get what you pay for though. If you buy them you would probably be better off finding a temporary place to plant them in your yard that gets morning sun and is shaded during the hottest part of the day. Pamper them until fall.

Most of the time they come in three gallon pots. So when I get them I bump them up to five gallon pots at home and that gets me through summer and then plant in the fall.
