Pigweed its whats for dinner!!

Turkey Creek

5 year old buck +
Finally checked my trail cams for the 1st time this summer after a 2 week soak. Sadly and depressingly zero buck photos. I use the same camera locations every year and have 160 acres pretty thoroughly covered. Hopefully the bachelor group break ups will bring some antlers ..... otherwise it will be a long wait to the rut.:(

Always get some good pics and /or video though. If you have a pigweed problem I have a couple of does that can help out.:)

Deer love alot of weeds especially pigweed and lambsquarter around here. I would be frowned on by my farmer buddies for not being against everything that isnt planted to make money! They would continually cuss me for not being a "good" farmer and letting weeds go to seed. Good thing I am not a farmer!:)

She wolfed down the whole top of that plant in a couple bites. Wow.

I wonder if there is a guide to the nutritional value of common weeds? Considering how well they grow and compete with other species they could be a real asset in certain situations.

Thanks for sharing. Natural food plots would be a real asset.

I have 50 acres of prairie grass and I have thought about discing 5 acres to see what comes up and to add diversity to my plantings. Right now my fields are dominated by grasses and even if I disced them the grasses would eventually dominate. Thanks again.

Looks like both weeds I mentioned have nearly the same protein level as alfalfa. That would probably explain their high use especially this time of year. We had alfalfa but it was rotated into corn this year.

I think lambs quarter is a human editable, I'm pretty sure I have read of people using it in salads.

They don't like Lambsquarter on my land (just based on lack of seeing browse on it), but I agree 100% on them loving weeds!
