Pex pipe predicament.

My wife thought she could replace the dishwasher, but the pex pipe is an odd size.

The outside diameter is .511.

Does it need a fitting ring?

Remove
the compression ring and collar off the old piece of pipe and slide on what left there after the cut and adapt to it. (Really should get a new compression ring)

Ah. Then you may have just ordered the wrong size.

So if you have a nominal 3/8" pex pipe, the inside diameter is close to 3/8 inch, but the outside diameter seems to be closer to 1/2 inch:

Or does the old brass coupler match the treads on the valve? May have to toss the chrome coupler and reuse the old one if they do.

I doubt it's obsolete. It's probably just a different size from what you have. It's really hard to troubleshoot these things through photos.

Try ordering another valve with a 1/2" OD on the pex side, and whatever threads are appropriate for your steel mesh hose.

According to Dr. Google 3/8 Pex is .500 OD and 1/2 Pex is .625 OD.

You might have a piece of nylon tubing . The fitting you took off is a ferrule fitting. The angle on the plastic ring matches the angle on the inside of the fitting it came off. You could get a new ferrule and use the same brass nut.

It's possible the hot water going through the tubing softened it and the tubing swelled to .511.

I was thinking this also. If you have pex ring crimping tool you could just get a coupler and crimp a fresh piece of 1/2 inch on the end. Not worth buying a crimper to use once. Unless the price has come down in the last few years.
