Pardons

I know there's plenty of people here that understand the Constitution way better than I do, so here's a question.

Why was it ever written into the Constitution that the POTUS can pardon anyone, or commute their sentences?

I don't understand it and think it serves no good purpose.

To keep the law from being used to target and jail one's political enemies ... look at how that has turned out.

But obviously it’s been abused a million times over. Needs to be either done away with or severally limited. Lil Wayne and Kodak black (2 upstanding citizen rappers) are not political figures aligned with Donald Trump. Devin Shapiro, the crooked Miami hurricane booster isn’t exactly out there being a political advocate that could ever be confused with persecution. It’s all bs

What confuses me, is how can you "pardon" someone for a crime not yet known or arrested for?

In theory, an incoming President could pardon his entire political group (including the senate & congress), shielding them from any prosecution while in office, leading to complete break down of the legal system.

I wonder how this would hold up if challenged at the supreme court level?

If there is any way possible of getting rid of pardons you can bet the Democrat crime party will push hard as hell for it in the next 4 years.

And then bring it back.

Can anyone verify if this chart is correct? Spelling errors always make me question the authenticity of these things. Like maybe it was created by someone who doesn't have English as a first language.
