Old Fashion'ed

Foggy47

5 year old buck +
So.....recently I became to like "old fashioned" drinks over beer even. grin. Now, I am a bit fussy on my drink of choice. I do not like the really strong drinks that some of the mixes provide. Rather I enjoy the Costco mix which incluedes the bitters and the sugar. But...here is the key. Add some BROWN SUGAR either in cubes or in powder.....AND....USE THE CORRECT CHERRIES when you muddle the sugar and the Cheries. The RIGHT cherries are non-other than those made by LUXARDO MARACHINO CHERRIES. Do not be fooled by any other. Those Luxardo cherries are the difference between make or break it. No questions asked. Yeah...they are expensive. (($20.00 / jar) But you are worth it....and a jar goes a long way. ....unless you are serving one to Sandburr (Art). Give him the cheap ones....he wont know the difference. Grin.

Try it...and you may never go back to beer again. Promise.

I prefer my Old Fashion with Southern Comfort, Angostura bitters, maple syrup, and sour for the mixer. Big olives for the groceries, if there's room.

My folks were old fashion connoisseurs and even when my mom was sick, she'd make exceptions to her strict diet for an old fashion.

I grew up in southeastern WI where more often than not you went to a local tavern for a Friday fish fry, my folks would order old fashions and my sister and I would get "kidde cocktails". We'd each get $1 worth of quarters to play songs on the jukebox or Pac-Man on the arcade game.

Brandy old fashion sour, with bitters and maraschino cherries. I do prefer to drink beer but when I get classy, I'll have one or two.

Me and the mrs usually order old fashioneds when out for a decent dinner. I wouldn’t say I’m a connoisseur but enjoy some more than others. With bulliet rye is good. The only ones I’ve really not liked are the hosers who put freakin soda water in them! Immediate thumbs down.

I like a Manhattan. Sometimes in the summer I'll mix it up with an Old Fashioned or a Wisky Smash.

I'm partial to malt whisky, so there's usually at least a portion of that in the mix.

Try some Filthy Cherries if you want to step it up another notch.

OK....based on what you say here....and what I read on Amazon.....I figured I would try the filthy cherries and some of their syrup too. It's on the way. They sure can get paid for a jar of cherries....but here is no denying the flavor of good cherries in an Old Fashioned....or a Manhattan either.

I only use 2 different bourbons depending on what I’m in the mood for. Wild turkey Rare breed is the mainstay but also slightly behind is,Russel’s reserve 10 year old bourbon. Luxardo cherries (3). Orange peel twist and Orange bitters with simple syrup. My limit is 1. LOL

I am a whiskey old fashioned sweet guy. Make them from scratch with orange slice, sugar, and cherry muddle. I don’t experiment much, but will have to try the Luxardo cherries. Love those in my Manhattan! My job takes me many places. Crazy how many different OF recipes you run into when travelling. Manhattans for that matter as well. Love WI OFs though,

Try using pure cane brown sugar. I have gotten it powdered and in cubes. Big difference from white sugar. Just like the cherries....little things go a long way. I don't much care about adding any orange. Have not recognized any change in flavors with the orange. Maybe it's just me.

Lifelong Wisconsin here. Southern comfort, cherry juice ( no actual cherry) with olives. Goes equally well with a Friday fish fry or a supper club steak and relish tray with pickled herring and beets. 😂😂

What? No liver pate.

Is it liver pâté’ or braunschweiger?? Maybe throw a few celery stalks and carrots on that tray? Maybe a sheet cake on the salad bar for dessert?

You ever go to a fish fry that was so busy that you end up having 3 oldies at the bar while waiting? Then have a 4th with dinner because, why not? Then have your wife silently drive you home? In bed by 7:35nand woke up with a massive headache? Me neither.

I have never tried the syrup, but do love both their black and maraschino cherries.
