That leaf is from an oak in the red oak family. The pointed lobes are the distinguishing characteristic. An oak from the white oak family would have rounded lobes.

Certainly a member of the red oak family. I think it is a pin oak as well, but oaks easily hybridize and even the leaves can vary some from region to region and even on the same tree. Like was mentioned the point lobes are a dead give away between a red oak and a white oak as the white will be rounded. Pin oak here produce a real small acorn (size of a dime or smaller) and a bunch of them. This smaller size draws birds to them as they are easier to handle. They also seem to like damp/wet soil here and they grow fairly fast for an oak, but tend to be a lesser desired oak species from a timber perspective. Certainly still of value for timber and wildlife. I can't say I would want my place covered in them, but certainly good for overall wildlife diversity.
