Finally got out to check on my "pet" oak at the county park last evening. Took all of about 20 seconds to realize I was too late.:( I have been keeping an eye on this one, as I believe it to be a Schuette's oak(I really like them for deer habitat) and 2 weeks ago it had a good number of acorns on it. I wouldn't call it "loaded", but for a young tree it had quite a number of them. I found literally one acorn last night, which I decided to remove and I will try and start in a pot this winter. So p!ssed I almost blew a gasket. I am pretty sure I am not the only one that was interested in these acorns. With as hard as the one I pulled off was to remove, it seems like someone would have had to have picked them, because the one I got was not really ready to come off the tree on it's own, it was still pretty solidly attached, so I hope it was far enough along that it will still germinate. This is right at the edge of the boat dock parking area, so very easy to back up a pickup and stand in the bed to reach most of the tree. I have some pics on the phone I will upload this evening. I might even try the Tapatalk thing. I still have to get over to the red oak near our house and see if there are any acorns left on that tree, if so I might still be able to get some of those acorns.
