FarmLogs has been way off in the rainfall totals for me this year. Anyone else notice a problem?

I put a pocket rain gauge ap on my phone that will give me past 24 hours wherever the phone is or I can pick a spot.

Yes, the Farmlogs has been way off this year for me too. Been on the light side.

I quit using it last year. Maybe there's an updated version but it seemed erratic to my. Sometime is on and sometimes way off.

OK. Well, look. Farm Logs is trying to add value to information provided by the National Weather Service Dopplar radar. You can read about it here. I don't understand radar except to say it sends out a signal and reads a return reflection. The harder it rains, the more reflectance (?) there is. This is compared to (correlated) with observation from ground stations actually measuring rainfall. Sometimes there is reflectance, but no rain. The reported results are averages of that value om a grid of about 4 kilometers square. It's not uncommon at my place to have no rain on the south end of the farm, a tenth on the north end at the same time there's a gully washer ascross the road. So, what's the average rainfall in that grid? It's good stuff, but won't necessarily match what you see in your rain gauge. Weekly and monthly numbers are proabably more accurate and valuable than the daily numbers.
