In the summertime this is a small fill-pit on my property that I use for trail repairs.
This winter since the moment we got snow, it’s just been a deer magnet! I took a few pics.
The pit is dug out of a glacial esker that runs the length of my property. It’s a 25’ tall mound of gravel that is said to have been a melt water outflow boundary during the last glacier.
Anyway, I can’t say I’ve ever seen a “natural” lick before. I assume it must be salty? What else could it be?
