Morels 2025

The wife and I found a 5 gal bucket full in 3 outings at the farms this week while killing turkeys. Knox / Lewis Counties, MO.

If ya really want to try top end frying us Ghee. Can cook at higher temps than butter but still tastes like butter (it is butter).

Haha I can try it. Honestly I only fry food a few times a year. Couple fish fries couple turkey fries, morels if we're lucky. So if there's a superior product I'm listening.

No morels here and have only found a scattered few in the last 20 yrs but the wild ramps are back up and looking good. Some areas have seemed to expanded a bit. Plan for ramp and tater soup later this week if I get back up there.

There is a 40 acre sugar bush just down the road that has been thinned to just the decent sized maples for tapping. The road curves around two sides so you get a good view of it. The forest floor is just choked full of wild ramps except for the trails and where boulders peek thru.
Ramps / wild leeks ..... same plants. Love 'em!!! I like to dig them when they are just poking through the leaf duff, and the first flicker of green color is showing = no leaves yet. I've found the flavor to be more potent at that stage. Chopped into burger, or eggs for scrambling ....... really tasty!!

Enjoy your ramps, Rocks!!

Found about 2# in S.E. MN yesterday afternoon. Many good areas with nothing so i'm sure they will be popping soon.

We've always used butter.

I checked a few spots in SE MN yesterday, but didn't find anything. They should start popping soon though, but we could use some moisture.

We ended up having an impromptu family get together last night for no particular reason at all, ended up ordering out then the kids wanted to go shroom hunting.
They found about half a bag of yellows and saw some baby birds and bunnies. Lots of little kid questions.

Doesn't get any better than doing things with the kids!! New discoveries, tons of questions, shared times = solid gold.

Congrats H20 and Grandma!!
