Illinois I80 corridor. If I can get out in 6-9 days I think there will be a few yellow clusters.what state sir?
Haha I can try it. Honestly I only fry food a few times a year. Couple fish fries couple turkey fries, morels if we're lucky. So if there's a superior product I'm listening. If ya really want to try top end frying us Ghee. Can cook at higher temps than butter but still tastes like butter (it is butter).
Ramps / wild leeks ..... same plants. Love 'em!!! I like to dig them when they are just poking through the leaf duff, and the first flicker of green color is showing = no leaves yet. I've found the flavor to be more potent at that stage. Chopped into burger, or eggs for scrambling ....... really tasty!!No morels here and have only found a scattered few in the last 20 yrs but the wild ramps are back up and looking good. Some areas have seemed to expanded a bit. Plan for ramp and tater soup later this week if I get back up there.
There is a 40 acre sugar bush just down the road that has been thinned to just the decent sized maples for tapping. The road curves around two sides so you get a good view of it. The forest floor is just choked full of wild ramps except for the trails and where boulders peek thru.
This is what I useButter Flavor Crisco...![]()
