Missouri Dept Conservation is looking for feedback on some potential non-resident deer hunting regulations changes

NR sure are limited a lot on Fed land, though
True. That’s always a tough one for me. On one hand it’s the states wildlife but it’s our land. If the state can manage the wildlife on federal land why can’t they manage the oil and timber. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want them to pull what Utah wants to do and essentially take over federal land but I’m not knowledgeable on why there are differences

They can fix this really easy …

1 buck limit for NR, with $25 doe tags
Move gun season back week or two .
Max NR out at 20k or some arbitrary number. NRLO stays same, but they phase in (1 buck)

Baby steps, if the hunting gets great , they can demand more $$ for tags ?

Being a good steward of natural resources on land you own should give you some type of preferred access to those resources you're protecting /managing.

...no matter where you reside.

Didn’t read everything. But are you kidding me? I’ve been a NR landowner in MO for 20 years. We haven’t had a game warden in my county in 3 years and the last one wouldn’t do anything that might put him in danger. (Not that I blame Him).

The rules on my farm put in place by me far exceed anything MDC would ever do.

Welcome to the show me state. Show me you’re going to uphold theses rules……

Pfffftt
I hope you fill out the survey and add some comments. I am a little worried about the representation of non-residents in the survey responses.

A realtor in that area (pretty good connections) told me in a text .. I guarantee you they won’t prevent a landowner from getting a tag every yr.

He said zero chance, & no possible way in a series of texts… who’s he’s talking with I don’t know ?

I hope he’s accurate.

I cant imagine the Drurys or any of the hunting Celebs would like this rule

Damn now yall are going to make me like the rule if goons like them don’t lol!

I spoke to a legislator yesterday who is really for reciprocal licensing. I kind of like the idea.

What else did he say ? Any hints ?

This was in Kentucky. But, he didn't go into any more detail. He did say he has properties in different states and knows he pays considerably more than residents. If I was in MO, I would contact every legislator I could. There has to be a way to make them see how much nonresident landowners contribute to protecting and managing natural resources.

I was reading Iowa whitetails thread on this and I agree with skips point in theory but not in reality. His argument was if all these people who want to come to Iowa would change their state they wouldn’t need to come to Iowa. Amen. But that’s like saying Iranians should just overthrow their government. Sounds great. Good luck

And, for some states, that's just not a possibility. Midwest state deer hunters have a different playground than most of the country when it comes to whitetails.

Here’s a counter, I hear those guys always complaining about the number of deer and lack of cover on Iowa. 7% of the state or something is wooded. Well telling someone from out of state to change their regulations in their own state would be like telling them to plant more trees.

I’ll use a NFL analysis. Every team knows they need a stud QB to win the Super Bowl but it doesn’t always work out that way .

Try to change a regulation in Minnesota…. Good luck 🍀!! 😳

so if people choose to spend their money in a state where mature bucks are more likely than where they reside, than why shouldn’t people who don’t care anything about mature bucks travel to the states whose regulations are liberal and they can have their utopia and big buck guy can have his? Seems like all the onus on travel and money is on the guy who strives for mature (well managed/balanced/scientifically proper herd) bucks and the guy who just wants shoot whatever shouldn’t be inconvenienced. All the Missouri residents pissed about the Minnesota guys coming down and “buying up all their land” should just buy Land in Minnesota and hunt forkies. Win/win
