Mineral Lick

Trophy Collector

A good 3 year old buck
Opinions on loose or block form? Has anyone used mineral dirt 180?

Not familiar with mineral dirt. A few weeks ago I mixed a bag of salt w/trace minerals and a bag of minerals (don't remember the name = from Tractor Supply) together and dumped around a stump. I have had a ton of traffic. I checked the site yesterday and looks like I need to restock the pile.

I guess I like the blocks, set them up on a stump. Just cleaner IMO.

Trace Mineral Salt Blocks for me. Per trail camera they will bite little pieces off the edges. I like being able to see the block instead of wondering how much is left in the ground.

Ditto.

I just mix salt and trace minerals. I've got holes in the ground a foot deep and 6 foot across. Didnt freshen them last year because MDC recommended not to because of CWD. But they still hit those holes. Especially after it rains.

I use a trace mineral block for livestock - 50 lb block for $8. Blocks will last roughly 6 months in my area. I run 2 sites year round for less than $50 a year. Anybody that says the deer won't lick the block is full of it. This doe licked the block like it was a huge ice cream! This is actually a still from a short video and it is VERY obvious she likes the block!

Different places, different deer... I've put out trace mineral blocks several times over the yrs and nothing has eaten them. Rats and stuff don't even mess with them, they just set there and kind of dissolve over a long period of time. I've even poured corn over a block to see if I could get them started but they had no interest once the yellow was cleaned up. I've had some success with granular minerals and water softener pellets. They seem to like that combination, but being salt heavy it probably just tastes good...

If there's a buck on the bag just say no. Make your your and save $$$$$$$$$

1 50# bag of di-cal phosphate
2 50# bags of trace minerals
1 50# bag of fine stock salt
If you want to spice it up add some Molasses
