I heard it retails for $59. You can’t control settings on the camera. I think that’s to be expected though. They couldn’t possibly interface with every make out there.

My guess is that it interfaces via the SD card slot. One would make the cell device look like a card to the camera. When the camera writes to the "card" the device would transmit it across the cell network. Same principle as a eyefi card I presume.
The problem I see is that accessing the card slot on many cameras would open it to moisture. It will be interesting if they have a solution for that.

I was hoping it would use one of the wifi SD cards that you would plug into the regular camera then transmit to the modem enabled device that could be located up to a few feet away.

That could be the interface. An eyefi card in the camera or something similar perhaps transmitting bluetooth. The issue with the eyefi cards is the amount of power they consume. Like most things with game cams it is a balancing act. 3rd party interfaces were generally not considered in the cameras balance. So, I would expect it will be better balanced with some cameras than others.

With Spypoint, does anyone know if you get the photos emailed/texted to you? Or do you have to use a service where they host the photos?
I had purchased a trail camera (off-brand) that was cellular enabled. I had to use an AT&T go-phone setup and then swap the SIM card into the camera. The camera allowed me to choose email or text. It was cool to wake up in the morning and have a bunch of text messages from "the field". So the only fee was for the monthly cell and it was "pay as you go". Eventually the camera died - but it was only an $80 camera so I wasn't terribly disappointed.

It's an app just like the texting app or the email app. You get a push notification on your phone and you click to open the photos. They're your photos to keep. You can save them if you want or just keep them on the card. I switch batteries and download the card twice a year in May and September. I save the photos I want between then that I really want to keep.

You can get unlimited images for $10/month if paid annually. If you hooked that up to a cuddelink home system. You could potentially save money on the dataplan. Or any other cell cam. This also makes any 3g cell camera that was going to be obsolete workable again. This is a crazy concept.
