Kubota MX series

I’m looking at a well used MX5200. 1700hrs, 2015 model. Hydrostatic transmission.

Is this a concerning number of hours?

On the surface, would say that tractor (as a compact not a full size model) has used up about half its useful life without some major expense in future. What does tire tread look like? They are getting pricey. Works out to about several hours a week, every week for last ten years. Private individual or business? Would maybe go max offer of around 50% new. If same hours but more like 20 yrs old can figure it had a cushy life. But at 10, that rig has seen some long hour days probably.

If a rental place would consider all the noobs who probably ran it and discount it according. They did dumb things just trying to learn how to operate it. I did too the first few yrs owning a tractor. But new operators every week are hard on stuff. Lent my rig out to half dozen friends in the early days. Think 5 outta 6 times something happened even if they did fix it. Bent my back blade mounting, broke the steering coupling, power washed the chit outta the dash and now couple gauges don't work or erratic. Hey what are friends for? Lol. But you get the point. Constant new learners are hard on stuff and discount your offer if that is true for this rig.

Kubotas are good rigs tho. No problem with used if fair priced.

I have to get a Kubota. I have a Kubota dealership about 5 miles away and do not intend to buy a trailer to haul it. No other brands sold nearby.

This particular one is for sale clean by and is allegedly one-owner, but the hours concern me a little. I’d also need to replace the tires.

See if your Kubota dealer would be willing to do an inspection on it pre buy. Even if you have to pay a bit - it’s likely worth the costs even if you don’t buy the tractor. That way you know exactly what you’re getting into!! I know my Kubota dealer will work on my Case. Great folks all around!

Tires are around 3-4k for 4. Thats not including filling them with beet juice. Also, might need rims depending on what they filled them with. Not likely, but not impossible. Washer fluid bets them up a bit.

Look down every hole. Gunk in the cylinder head. Coolant overflow look alright (fluid change). Hydro filter look recent? Check the front diff oil, especially if it has a loader. Hows the loader pins.

Could be a good deal could be a headache. I'd compare buying that versus lets say a new B2600. Smaller, but more reliable. Think they avoid the diesel exhaust equipment too.

My brother in law buy numerous L series. Going MX sized, he buys case stuff instead. Runs a grain business and 3 several hundred head a piece dairy farms.

I feel I need at least the MX class or the biggest L. I’m gonna have to hold out for one with R1s. A lot of these have R4s and that won’t work for me.

R1's are cheaper to replace than R4's. Last one I had was a L3200 with R1's. Needed more hp because I was on a steep hillside and had to snowblow uphill to get to the road.

I have an MX5200 it does alright for most things. I have had it for just over 5 years, bought it new. A lot less hours than one you are looking at but we use it "vigorously" when we use it.

Maybe a tradin from your local dealer would be an option

I’ve used my tractor a good bit over last few years and it has 200 hours on it. That is a lot of hours.

can they service other tractor models at that dealership?

Unless the price was right I would look for another machine. Could be fine but I always trust my gut and sounds like yours is telling you something.

I tend to agree
