Jump-starting succession in a field with brush piles?

We have about 15 acres of old field that we've just flat out let go. It's startig to brush out in multiflora rose, after having gone canadian thistle, to golden rod, to multiflora rose. I'm gonna cut some strips into it with a brushhog this year. Don't want it going all woody on us.

As that succession happened, what stage did you notice the most deer activity?

Burning is a good way to control MFR and also reset the succession a bit, not sure if that is an option for you.

truth be told, not sure what's going on. that spot is a bowl and had 7' high golden rod in it this year. But the deer activity isn;'t what the rest of the farm is. We're trying to diagnose it.
