If you could change one regulation in your state

For my county and the 20-25 other CWD counties in IL, I wish we could go back to the days of having 2 short gun seasons, 1 in late Nov and 1 in early Dec. Now we have a youth season in Oct, the same 2 original gun seasons, a ML season, 2 more gun seasons in late Dec and mid Jan, and a sniper season that goes for 2.5 months until April. Although the snipers are temporarily paused. Too many seasons... I feel sorry for the deer.

I don't think you have to kill 2 to make a difference. Having 2 buck tags in your pocket allows you to satisfy the itch with killing a less than spectacular buck (young one) while saving the other tag for a monster. Only one buck dies, but with only 1 tag it wouldn't have been the young up-n-comer.
I don't know how to ask this question without it seeming personal, but I assure you it is not. Am I one of the few that would rather shoot a doe than a less than spectacular buck?

Never heard anyone advocate against people with physical limitations using a crossbow
I did in the early days. I thought a crossbow would be good for people with limitations during rifle season, but I didn't want to get the ball rolling in archery season as I figured it was the first stepping stone in their eventual full inclusion. I don't care about them now.

Not sure how it could be done but if I could change anything it would be KS residents get better chances to hunt here. NR hunters, outfitters, and leasing have made it very difficult for our kids to find a place to hunt. I let a few kids hunt our places every year but for the most part they have been outpriced and very few get to chase deer. Surprisingly it has affected a lot of outdoor activities. Leasee's don't want people fishing, quail/rabbit hunting, shed hunting, mushroom hunting, or doing anything that might bump "their" deer. It's crazy the amount of outdoor opportunities that have been lost here in the last 20yrs. I suppose if it had always been this way I wouldn't know the different, but it's happened in a short amount of time and I've been witness to it so I get to see how much of a difference has been made.

I have had it happen to me. There were a few years when I was younger that KS had left over tags that a guy could buy and be able to shoot a 2nd buck. I typically go 3-4 years without shooting a deer, and I'm fine with that. But, when I had a 2nd buck tag in my pocket I sometimes shot a less than what I wanted buck and hunted the rest of the season waiting for that big one. I never shot 2 bucks in 1 year, but I did shoot a couple of nice bucks that I normally would have passed. At that time (and my younger age) if I'd had that option every year it might have hurt the age structure on my hunting places. I likely would have shot a deer every 2-3yrs instead of 3-4, and I would have settles on younger deer just to get a decent set of antlers in my hands. I'm not that way anymore, but in my youth that's likely what would have happened.

Where do I even start in Massachusetts? LOL.

Allow Sunday hunting.
Agree!!!!!! well same for Pennsylvania, I thought we were the last state that had that rule. I work 6 days most weeks and Sunday is my only day off. From what ive read is its getting closer every year, but we will see.

The Sunday thing is absolute bs. I’m not an outlaw but that’s one rule where I’m taking my chances

I never understood the Sunday thing. What's the reasoning for it?

"Buck Days" would be a way to raise the buck age structure. One thing we used to have in Louisiana were doe days. They were spread out over time. There weren't very many of them. That was back when populations were well below carrying capacity in most areas of the state. It seemed to work to get more does. If a state were to go to "buck days", you could raise the age structure pretty good just by altering the number of days the bucks could be killed. Shoot with bow, xbow, rifle, shotgun, mz, spear, etc. You still only get a certain number of days to kill a buck.

I would like antler restrictions. Gotta be at least 6 points. jmo

Minnesota:

If I was a public land hunter it would be lottery for non resident buck tag.

For me, 1 9 day gun season moved to the last week of Nov.

All my hunters would rather shoot a doe than a less than spectacular buck. The only problem, fawn recruitment is so low here, that we dont hardly shoot does. We let the grand daughters take a couple and that is it. I feel a lot better about one of my hunters killing a 90”, 3:5 yr old buck than a nice breeding age doe. But, my hunters have got to the point they wont even kill a less than spectacular buck, period. My two oldest grand daughters, 15 and 13, would not shoot a deer of any kind this year - holding out for a spectacular buck or nothing - and nothing it was. There were a few really less than spectacular bucks - like a 3 pt on one side and spike on the other - a 3 pt on one side and a nub on the other - and they would not shoot them. Deer hunting is so different than when I was 15 yrs old

Not just for deer, but across the board, make youth hunts youth only. Dove youth hunts should only be for youth, no adults carrying shotguns. Same for deer, ducks, quail, whatever. Our kids our our future and we need them to preserve the future for them and their kids.

Agree with this. I know several guys that take their kids on youth hunts so they can fill the tags for the kids. That's bullshit in my opinion.

Youth hunts are early adult season around here.

But honest question…did you have a youth season? Did your grandfather? Did I? I think it’s a NO across the board. Youth season to me is more of a problem than a solution.

We didnt have youth season when I was growing up, or my kids. And to be honest, for me now, it doesnt really matter since we hunt my own land. But before I owned land and it was all public land hunting - youth season would have been nice - especially the turkey and waterfowl youth seasons. In AR, an adult is not allowed to carry a weapon.

If you are a landowner of a piece of America, you pay the same price as any other landowner to hunt on the piece of land you own.
Why stop there? If you are a landowner, you should get to vote there as well.

On certain things that I pay money towards, yeah, I guess so.
