How rare?

This little cutie didn’t make it past the winter. So sad. They are truly beautiful

Any sign of someone shooting it? Looks like it was in good body condition.
No sign of that so I hope it wasn’t some idiot who would do that

I believe those white deer that are not true albinos are called leucistic. Spelling may be off, but IIRC, they still have the recessive gene and are not really healthy deer. On the other hand, I saw firsthand a two or three year old melanistic buck that someone killed and he appeared to be very healthy of body. Peculiar thing is, he had killed another one the year before he said. He was the son of a very rich guy, and the only reason I was there was to look at an oilfield location and road in order to be an “expert witness” in a lawsuit the rich guy wanted to bring against the oil company. The young man didn’t even want the deer, he was giving it to someone who worked for them. I’m glad someone got the venison, but I wanted to smack the kid in the mouth. I know, none of my business, but I still had the urge. 😬
