Heading to Europe on vacation for 17 days

Rothenburg tomorrow.

If you have some extra time, Wurtzburg is about 45 minutes from Rothenburg and is also pretty neat.

My wife ran across one of her former students on the street in Prague that was pretty cool for them.

Met an older gentleman and his wife on the train from Munich to Prague he was an interesting fellow had Doctorate in political science from a Canadian University grew up in Costa Rica worked for at least two presidents of different Latin American countries and taught at a university in Florida until he retired. Own’s a paid parking lot in Costa Rica that he mostly manages remotely via camera but has to drop in on the employees every few months just to remind them he owns the place. He and his wife love Prague and return whenever they can he did turn my wife and I onto a good restaurant in the Hotel Paris building the peppered beef filet was very good. IMG_4453.jpeg

So cool. Kind of neat to think you ate lunch in a building that may have been built before North America was discovered.

What's the political feel? Have you felt safe? My youngest is going to France for a tournament in a few weeks. Would like to think its safe, but never hurts to ask.

Well Germany has worked pretty hard importing fighting age men from foreign counties and their society is showing the results of that. I wouldn’t say it was unsafe but I don’t think their culture as it has been is likely to survive in the larger cities anyway they have pretty well screwed themselves on cultural identity. Prague we have enjoyed a great deal and wish we had planned more time here than Munich. Prague is likely the new Munich for vacation destinations it’s probably about what Munich was like after the reconstruction following WW2 a beautiful city. Pick pocketing I think is a real issue in Paris but I’ve never been so I can’t say much more than that. My oldest boy was in Paris and Spain a couple years ago and he very much liked Spain but wasn’t crazy about France but I don’t think that had anything to do with feeling unsafe.

My wife and I drank an entire bottle of local white wine with lunch in that monastery's wine cellar restaurant how could you not? We may have been a little worse for wear there for a bit following lunch and only walked 8 miles today. It may have all been part of her dark plot to liquor me up so she could buy garnet jewelry on the walk home however.

WE really liked visiting places like that, especially if the people there knew and cared to provide an actual tour.

And, you'll both remember it forever, perhaps differently but forever.

That sounds like a great trip!

Arrived in Venice this afternoon pretty good food here.

If a boy, probably safe, but shouldn't go out alone in big cities or near migrants. If it's a girl, probably not safe alone anywhere there are migrants.

Sexual assault is through the roof in much of Europe due to the migrant crisis.

Keep those pics coming B116757! I'm living vicariously through you right now!

Thanks for the replies about safety. He's basically a guy (17yr old kid). Since he's going to be there playing ball he'll be with a team and a coach/sponsor the whole time. I'm usually pretty trusting in a situation like that but with politics changing and whatnot I got myself concerned about the climate over there. Thanks again for the replies.

He shouldn't have any problems. Tens of thousands of teenagers travel in Europe every year. It's rare to encounter any real issue unless you provoke it.
