Heading to Europe on vacation for 17 days

My wife and I are leaving tomorrow for few days in Germany then a few days in Prague then a 9 day bus tour around Italy. She has wanted to see castles in Germany since she was a young girl I told her when we got married that when we retire we would buy one way tickets to Europe and when we got good and tired of it we would fly home. Well we have 8 more years until we retire but I started to get nervous our health may prevent us from going if we waited so last fall I told her let’s go ahead do a trip over to Europe while we are still healthy enough to enjoy it.

Go to every church you can, the same goes for castles. The Eagles Nest is pretty cool. And I think Largo di Garda is a must do!

Agree with Catscratch...Lago do Garda is breathtaking. We have family that live in Salo on the southern shore and visit often.

I’m jealous!

That’s how I’m spending the first few years of my retirement.
Traveling Europe, we are planning on going for a month at a time to different countries and day tripping all over.
I’m done with work spring of 2027 so it’s adventure time for us after that…when we see all of Europe we want then it’s the South Pacific… after that it’s up in the air.

Super cool. LOML and I spent 12 days in Italy and Sicily for our 25th back in 2005. She was nervous about the trip but loved it when we got there. I had been there before when I was in the Navy. Are you seeing northern or southern Italy?

I've made most of our tours of Europe based on beer tours and my wife picked the wine stops. NO, do not drink and drive in Europe.

We've been to Bavaria a few times but never to the Czech republic. I would absolutely go to Pilsen to get a taste of the true Pilsner beer.

If you're near Munich and want to get a taste of real life go to Dachau, north of Munich.

I like how you think! I often pick up a 6 pack of whatever is local when we travel and throw it in the trunk (every time we stop). Drive from KS to Oregon and back and you'll have a trunk full of beer to put in the garage fridge. Makes for a good summer of memories/drinking.

Do you already have an itinerary?

My favorite place in Germany was Rothenburg aub der Tauber.

Favorite place in Italy was Siena.

I'm taking the wife to Sardinia for a week and a half on the 24th.

Europe has some real gems. Be aware that the capitals and big cities can be full of immigrants. Rome and Prague are worth a visit, but big cities in Germany might disappoint.

If you're ever in Norway, let me know. And if you're interested in natural beauty, Iceland and the Faroe Islands are unbeatable.
