Hand pump for water well

Have any of you guys added a hand pump to your water well as a back-up?
I'm not exactly "off the grid" by any means, but I would like to be a little less reliant on the power company.
I thought about adding a hand pump to my well to supply water during long term power outages, issues like my submersible pump breaking, or other plumbing problems.
I see Bison Pumps on the internet, but otherwise, I know very little about it. Thoughts?

I have a shallow well and old pump that doesn't work. The well has water. I guess if I got desperate I could home make some leather washers for it and get it going.

there are solar pumps but alot depends what size casing and how much in flow you have.You can also buy new pitcher pumps if you can get the old one off but you will have to prime it at times. How deep is the water in the casing?If under 25 ft you hook up a shallow well pump to a generator with a foot valve and have all the water you want.I used to do this before I drilled another casing and put up a windmill
