Habitat out loud

Opening weekend of tree planting was a success. I had hopes of planting the edge area by my lawn into solid dogwood. That got done. This whole area isn’t 30x50 feet. I put 400 ROD in this spot.

This is what they look like. I plant in big clusters so they get to bush status faster.

Really like that blue blind you have in the background.

The guy I got that from quit using it 20 years ago, and he was not the first owner of that unit.

I keep it tucked in the woods. People start seeing amenities like that and then they know you’ve got money.

Nothing like the sight of a healthy wood pile.

ROD looks good too.

Got up early today to beat the heat. Put the last load of wood on the camp pile. Got this pile cut up.

Decided to do some filmin and producin this weekend. I've had some rip and relocate white spruce die years after planting. So this is the second or third try to get trees to go in these spots. This time around, I'm amending with rotted sawdust to try to loosen up the dirt and encourage some earthworm activity around the tree.

This one is filling borrow pits I made when fixing trails with the excavator. Poplar is of little value around me, but it's still carbon and biomass, and it's highest value begins when it's knocked out of the sky. I chunked up some logs I had around and used them to fill my borrow pits. Maybe years from now I can dig these back up when they're broken down to mush and use it and repeat the process.

Might be a good year for arrowwood viburnum. My wall is loading up.

"Wall" is the right word. AV would make a great screen.
