Mine were still holding last weekend, even after 5' of snowWhen do these golden hornets drop?
Are you zone 3? How cold did you get last winter?I pulled blossoms off of my GH the year I grafted it and again this year. It has not shown any CAR and is doing great.
Are they a kind of crab that eventually just dries or rots on the tree?or do they eventually fall, I am after varieties that drop from Christmas until about 2 weeks into January, that is when our flintlock season is.Mine were still holding last weekend, even after 5' of snow

My Golden Hornet crab on G-202 rootstock in the Home Orchard. I planted it in 2014. It's dropped about 1/3 of it's fruit so far. Planning on grafting a few on B118 for the wildlife orchards.

Wow those trees really cleared off Cummings list after this thread started.
If you graft your own you can get the scion for free from GRIN .Anyone know of another source? Not many online nurseries even list them, and of course everyone that does is sold out.
The other thing I'd mention is that I've never seen Golden Hornet available on the larger rootstocks that most of us typically use for wildlife. That is, even if Cummins had them available today, they'd likely have it on g.202 rootstock (I'm no expert, but I believe that will yield a ~8-10' tree that will need support.) That's fine for apple growers that are more interested in the late blooming characteristic of the variety, but perhaps not ideal for most wildlife guys.)If you graft your own you can get the scion for free from GRIN .
