Giant ragweed seeds

Telemark

5 year old buck +
I've been looking everywhere for giant ragweed seeds(Ambrosia trifida). I can't seem to find it anywhere. Common ragweed is easy enough to locate, but I really need the tall stuff.

Any ideas?

A field mixed with giant ragweed would make some awesome deer and pheasant cover.

I've never actually looked for the seed, but it magically seems to grow in disturbed areas even if I've never noticed giant ragweed in that area.

I'm sure any local rowcrop farmers would be elated to have some Gly resistant giant ragweed introduced to the area.

In the south, giant ragweed commonly grows 12 ft tall on decent ground. Birds do like the seeds, but I have not noticed any browsing of the plant like common ragweed

Only place I know of lists everything as sold out. Not sure when they restock. You might have to bribe someone into saving seed for you.

I saw that one in my searching. I'll message them anyway.

There's very little row crop around here. It's mostly suburban. I'm not looking for anything gly resistance, and I doubt anyone selling seeds has specifically gly resistant plants they are cultivating.

They don't show them in stock at Roundstone, but I would call them anyway. They can probably put you on to some.

Gly resistance in giant ragweed happens all on its own. Most of the stuff growing in farm fields in southern MN and Northern IA is gly resistant now. Probably in other areas too. Nobody cultivated it for resistance, it just happened

I get 8ft ragweed here in NY. Just has to grow in a good enough spot. Beautiful purple flowers on it too. I'll collect some this upcoming summer for ya.

common ragweed seed here.......

Some states it's illegal to sale these kind of seeds.

I bought some 2 Winters ago for a renovation I was doing. I will do some digging tonight and see if I can figure out where I got it. Common Ragweed seed is easy to source, Giant is harder to find. Does with newborn fawns absolutely hammer it. I have video off of trailcameras somewhere that makes the does look like shop vacs, they are eating it so fast it looks like they are just sucking the leaves right off the stem.

I can't find a packing slip email. I think Roundstone, like Native Hunter mentioned might have been my source. You could also reach out to Pheasants Forever through their seed purchase page and see if they could source it for you.

I’ve got a couple of acres of this stuff. Bought ground that used to be heavily grazed and since the cattle have been off for a few years now, the feed lot area is practically a pure stand of it. Our first snow of the winter has already laid quite a bit of it over though. How much seed were you hoping to get?

I was going to say... I've got an abundance of giant ragweed. Deer hit it hard, but like water hemp even more. Is there a timeframe for seed collection? Does the seed drop before now?

How much of a snow was that. Lot of our giant ragweed is 1.5” diameter stems. I dont see deer in it a lot. Hogs love it. Shades the ground and seems the soil doesnt dry out as fast. Makes rooting easier.
