Getting Ready for a Burn

As typical with my schedule, I missed a perfect day for burning, however, I did get the firebreaks put in around the main burn areas. This year I’ll be doing a dormant or early season burn in the areas with the NWSG and wildlife plots. During the first burn two years ago I mowed the firebreaks near the ground and had a couple areas burn through the breaks. Given I plant the breaks after the burns I opted to use two passes with the tiller (10’). Now I just need a good weather weekend that corresponds with my kids schedule, as they come and help with the burn.

My colleague from work who lives on the other side of the state (NE Missouri) did a better job of planning and preparation. These are the pictures he sent to me this morning:

Looks like he’s about to be down a quad.
No kidding. Know a guy who did that with a sxs and it wouldnt start when he got ready to move it. Fortunately, he had some help and got it raked around n time - but he learned a lesson that day.
