Full bloom

KickapooKid#1

5 year old buck +
I was up at the farm this weekend to check out the apple trees. Trees were in full bloom. Also noticed a few things on a couple of them. My Wickson on m111 seems to be way behind my other trees waking up every year. And my Arkansas Black must be the Arkansas Black spur variety.

Looks great, how old are your trees?

Very nice, is that Meadows crab a redflesh?

It is always a beautiful site to see them in bloom. But it is also a shaky time, I like it when I see small fruits forming under the flowers.

I started panting our first trees in 2010. Gave it a few years to see what would happen and started planting again in 2015 and every year since except last year.

In zone 3b, I have 2 trees that I am just getting a few blooms on. I just got in from checking on them, I had a bear that decided my garbage can looked better spred out throughout my entire yard, so I figured I best check on the trees. This morning I woke up to 32 degrees, with a couple more mid 30's in the forecast.

Very nice looking trees KK - You have trained them well.

I don't have any Liberty or Enterprise, although if I were to plant any more those 2 would be very high on my list. I do have Honeygold, Wolf River and Cortland. All 3 are among my best producers.

BTW - I am in Zone 4a - Upper Michigan and my apple trees just started showing a little pink yesterday so I decided to spray before they blossom.

Spray Schedule says use a multi-purpose spray for the Pink phase...

so I used a Bonide product which contains both Captain (fungicide) and Carbaryl (insecticide). I am done spraying now until after petal fall. These are the trees in my "People Orchard).

Cherry trees are just beginning to blossom so I did not spray them.

My Wickson from NWC (not entirely sure what rootstock, but my guess is B118) was in full bloom this past weekend. Planted in 2020. South central WI.

I forgot to mention I’m in 4b south central wi.
Sauk Co here. If you’re near the Kickapoo you’re just west of us I’d imagine.
