fishing reports

Bill any updates on your progress?

Sorry just saw this. Finally got back in the water last week. Then the wind blew hard for a week.

Here is my current view. Headed east. No tuna reported out there but there are supposed to be Mahi and the tiles are always there. Should be some marlin around also. I don’t care what’s out there. After a month of wishing I just want to be on the water.

Well the first trip after the generator repair led to a bit of a pucker moment. 😂

I took over driving and my son was down in the galley. We were 50 miles from shore. He poked his head up and said the generator must have stalled there is nothing on the volt gauge. I opened the hatch and it was on fire. 😳

GOD must have been with us because it was just starting with small flames. Grabbed the fire extinguisher from under the seat and put it out as my son hit the kill switch. It must not have been too hot because the engine room has an automatic fire boy that hadn’t gone off.

After we accessed the situation we decided it was safe to not use the generator and spend a few hours fishing. The overnighter got cancelled but we fished for a few hours.

I’m not pulling the boat. Going to finish the summer with no AC and no 120 service. Can’t do over nights but hopefully we get some fishing in. I’ll figure out the elephant down below over the winter.

Here is what a gazzilion dollars of Mahi looks like. 🙄

Wife says it hasn’t sunk in yet because I’m ready to go fishing again. She’s wrong. I’m ready to go fishing again…

Laugh or cry. I like to smile. It will work out one way or another.

But I did use a few choice words in the moment. :)

Gjs if you want the best go fish the lower gorgeous below Niagara in devils hole. My absolute favorite fishing spot.
Havent been down those 6million and one steps in many years...... Still good?

NC was nothing but nasty NE winds. Half day charter no1 was trolling for hours to have a 30 min flurry of spanish mackerel action then die again. Ceviche and blackened tacos were amazing.

Charter2 was cancelled three times but pulled it off. Was supposed to be near shore but the wife and daughter flaked knowing the waves wouldnt be fun. They werent. We went out a ways and did some reef fishing. Non stop seabass, a few flounder, a cobia, and a pile of trash fish. It was a riot. Honey soy pan seared seabass and then did a garlic butter pan fry with them. Amazing

Despite having fished my 48 years n all sorts of water.....i think i am starting to get sea sick. The last 3 trips have had me feel off to the point of taking Dramamine. That stuff knock me flat azz down too......like sleep for days.

Gjs two things you can get a charter or guide to take you on the lower gorge on Niagara for smallmouth or trout salmon. I can't even imagine walking up and down the gorge walls. Must have been brutal. From Mt experience the Frankenstein patch was more effective than dranamean for sea sickness. Here is a lake trout I caught in devils hoke on a 36 inch ultra light ice fishing rod. Caught 18 that day with that set up. One ounce pencil sinker on a 3 way rig with a silver x5 flatfish.

Good eaters, there!
They are. This page can be annoying but try this recipe with any white fish or even chicken. Your cardiologist may not approve but everyone else will. And use any flour. They’re trying to sell stuff.

Bill not stealing your thunder but I tried Indian tandoori chicken wings the other day. Premo

I think you might need a bigger bag of ice...

Nice haul!

Plenty on the boat. We always leave the dock with 200 lbs. never know what you might need to keep cold, besides the beer.

One and a half year old grandson caught his first smallie tonight, on a minnow under a bobber.

Boys caught a couple little smallies too, those had to have been hatched last spring in the pond.

Didn't Brody say were gonna need a bigger boat?

I'm following the hurricane. Thought some you guys that fish might find some interest in this. Typically if ocean wave height is 1/2 of the duration (time between the waves) it's a beautiful day. 20 foot waves 40 seconds apart would look like a lake. 2 foot waves 2 seconds apart would look like a washing machine. Here is one of my honey holes right now and the hurricane is very far off. 10 on 10 is ugly. I know a guy who is actually out there right now. He's in a 54 foot boat. He's safe but it's not a nice ride.

Bill is that 54 foot boat out around 100 miles. How far is the path of Erin offshore.
