fishing reports

My daughter caught this pkie two weeks ago.( somewhat). She has caught around 10-12 pike on0106181036.jpg tip ups all by herself. Usually 18 -26 inches. When she pulled this one's head thru the hole she dropped the line,screamed, and took off running. The line snapped and the fish actually got scared and jumped straight up the hole. My friend managed to grab it mid body and land it. Finally a big one that didn't get away.

Fished for about 10 hours Saturday on Petenwell. Went off LV as the Wilderness was not good for truck travel. Setup on some turns in the channel and fished 15 to 20 fow. Got a few keepers and some shorts, lots of sniffers. It was slow overall but better in morning than the afternoon. Tipdowns got some as well as clown jigging rap with a minnow heard and scent. Nothing I sent down other than that jigging wise got hit. Had a few hit and runs on tipups. All eyes. No craps, wb or cats. 21" of solid ice. Drilled a ton of holes with my new Pro4 Jiffy. Worked great.
 
Crappie were biting yesterday afternoon. It was the first time in a while that the ice was recessed enough to cast to open water. It was nice to get out for a while.

Awesome! I've never caught one through the ice but the fight they put up in open water is unmatched.

My son was home on leave with a fellow seaman from Florida who obviously has never been on a frozen lake. Seeing as they needed to be back on base Sunday afternoon we ventured out close to home on Lake Wisconsin. I decided that we would check out a couple areas that I have heard some rumor of crappie. I get eyes and crappies when trolling these areas but have never iced fished them. There is current and with the good ice conditions we've had I figured it was a good time to take the atv and venture the 2 miles or so out there. We drilled about 50 holes across a number of different breaks jigging and running tipdowns. We marked a few here and there but nothing was iced for the 4 hours we tried. It was a decent weather despite the cold temps but the bite was not on our side on this day.
 
Here's is a good fishing clip that's fun to watch. Pike fishing today. Haven't had much luck this year.

Lake Erie is way up on my bucket list.
 
Geez looks like you have 1 about 14" there? Great pile of fish.
 
My boy went out for about an hour yesterday and hammered some big bass. 5 were probably bigger than 3lbs with one just over 24" long!

It didn't even seem plausible, but they hoisted them up fish after fish took pics, and let them go. I wonder if that's possible, or if it's just a once in a lifetime outting?

That Gillespie show was legit, my buddy was in that group as his son is Johns cameraman. I guess it was a wild weekend, they were to go back in the end of February but the ice went bad on them.

My son's friends dad was supposed to be fishing on this trip too. I was talking to him about it and said he was invited thru Johnson's outdoors. I haven't seen him to talk to him about it yet.
 
Mille Lacs is hit or miss but every once and a while you get lucky.
