Fall Plot is in and Growing!

Yearling... With promise
I finally had the time to clear an area in our woods last month to plant a fall kill plot. I didn't think to take a before picture, but the first picture is after one day with a saw and moving some brush.

I did all the clearing with an ax, chainsaw and my Kubota L4060. Took me 3 or 4 evening after work to get it cleared.

Planted on 8/19, broadcasted Big Rack's Fall/Winter Extreme as it was about the perfect mix for what I wanted. Also put down 100lbs of 12-12-12 when I disc the plot.

First week saw good rain and pretty good growth!

After 2 weeks, it's really starting to fill in and get some use from the deer.

It's ADDICTING, hard work but addicting! Looks like a nice green plot. Did you get a soil test before you planted? PH is probably low since you cleared it out of the woods. You will probably need lime. Good Luck.

I ran out of time to pull a sample, as I didn't actually plan on getting to this until after season. I have one of those cheap PH meters and it's pretty close when checked against a real soil test. The woods plot came out around 6.5 so I decided to roll the dice. This isn't my first plot, but it was my first attempt at clearing spot in the trees and planting it.
